About
Hello and thank you for joining me on this journey!
My name is Gemma,
a clinical herbalist and holistic well-being practitioner, grounded in health science and the living practices of herbal medicine, permaculture, kundalini yoga, and the gong and medicine drum.
I hold a deep love for plant medicine, food as medicine, and the ancient wisdom of seaweeds. I am fascinated by what plants reveal about people, our histories, our healing, and our understanding of ourselves across cultures and time.
It was through my own healing experience with plant medicine, that I grew to have such strong admiration for our plant cousins. Plant medicine is about meeting the whole person, the body that needs tending, and the deeper story beneath illness. I have a particular interest in but not exclusive to:
Mental health - Anxiety disorders, depression, acute & chronic stress
Gut Health - Irritable bowel, helicobacterpylori, inflammatory bowel
Thyroid - Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto, graves
Metabolic - T2DM, T1DM, obesity, Diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy
Pain management - Nerve pain, headaches, osteoarthritis, chronic pain
Immune & Autoimmune - Cold & flu, Rheumatoid arthritis, allergies
Women's reproductive health - PMS, PMDD, Endometriosis, PMOS (Previosuly PCOS), Pregnancy before and after care.
Children’s health
Cardiovascular health - Heart disease
Other chronic conditions - sleep disorders, skin conditions, chronic fatigue syndrome, lyme disease, vascular conditions etc
It is this love that drew me to the Earth itself, to grow, tend, and learn directly from the land. Inspired by the philosophy of Masanobu Fukuoka, whose teachings remind me that true cultivation begins with observation and respect for nature's intelligence. From this, and my own lived experiences, I practice what I call Symbiotic Permaculture, a practice of designing with nature, in partnership with plants and in kinship with the living land.
A little story about me…
I have loved and been curious about life on Earth since I was a child, fascinated by the ocean creatures in the rock pools of Bronte, or nestling among the plants, and watching the sky as I listened to the pulse of the garden. It was in those quiet moments of simply being and feeling that I began to understand the world through connection and relationship.
Reflecting back on little me, I was learning the complexity yet simplicity of an ecosystem, the interconnection of all things and the great dance of balance and change. Nurturing a belief in me that we are not separate from Nature; we are Nature. This perspective has greatly influenced both my personal and professional life.
I hope to help people reconnect with the land and, through re-connection and Ancestral guidance, come home to themselves. My dream is to help sprout a world with community creating lasting positive change and ecological well-being, wherever the seed may grow.
